TRANSIENT FLOW THEORY-BASED HOT TEAR MECHANISM ANALYSIS AND FORECAST MODEL
In the manufacture of steel castings for heavy-haul railway freight cars, a new type of special hot tear which is not caused by product structure or conventional processing conditions has been found.On the basis of solidification theory and fluid mechanics, this paper analyzes the formation of molten steel transient flow during mold filling and its effect on the solidification process and casting quality, elaborates on the formation mechanism of hot tear in question and the control method, and establishes a mechanism pattern that the new type of hot tear will be caused by molten steel transient flow produced during molten steel mold filling.Long-term and numerous production data have shown that the new mechanism pattern is quite in consistency with production actuality and is of universality as a general rule.Such technical issue of hot tear has been successfully resolved by using this mechanism pattern in actual production, which thus has eliminated the potential quality risks for the crucial steel castings of heavy-haul railway freight car.
