　　Gain sharing automatic microphone mixing was patented in 1976 but remained obscure until recently.Now gain sharing is included as a feature in many high-end mixing consoles.The author recounts how the principle was discovered, explains the math behind the algorithm, suggests many applications where the technique could be helpful, and lists some manufacturers currently including it in their products.
