The effects of various acoustic loads on the vibration of a compression driver diaphragm
While using the scanning laser vibrometer system to characterize the vibration of loudspeaker diaphragms, there was some discussion about the acoustic loading on the transducer and the effect the acoustic load could have on the vibration. The compression driver is of particular concern as the forces related to acoustic loading tend to be stronger in a compression driver compared to other types of transducers, and the limited space contained within the laser positioning apparatus prevents the use of its normal horn load while measuring the vibration.Several acoustic loads which are small enough to fit inside the laser scanning system were built and tested.Comparing measurements of the same driver attached to each load, it is shown that the acoustic load changes the vibration.
