Application of Hydrothermal Treatment and HHP for Recycling of Steel Industry by-Products

In order to investigate the possibility on the developing higher value-added products by recycling steel industry slags,the hydrothermal treatment and hydrothermal hot pressing were madeusing BF slag and quartz or flyash.The characterization of fabricated pellets was made on the mechanical strength and micro hardness,as well as XRD analysis and SEM observation.In the hydrothermal treatment,the tobermorite(5CaO?6SiO2?5H2O)phase was found in XRD patterns for the samples with 20%,30%and 40%quartz addition and with 10%flyash addition.The tobermorite peaks were shown for the sample with 10%flyash addition.Maximum strength was found on the samples with 20%quartz addition and 10%flyash addition.However,the hydrothermal reaction in the mixed powder was not active in the hydrothermal hot pressing in the present experimental condition.Improvement in the experimental parameters will be necessary to get hydrothermal reaction in the process of hydrothermal hot pressing.
