The Application of Automated EBSD & EDS on SEM to the Complete Characterisation of Steel Samples
The characterisation of steel and metal samples on the micro and nano scale is increasingly important in understanding the development and engineering of steels, steel properties and behaviour coupled with potential failure mechanisms. The techniques of Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS) and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) are typically the basis of this analysis.EDS delivers highly spatially resolved chemical analysis and element distribution.EBSD offers microstructural characterisation, from which a multitude of parameters can be derived, including grain size, grain boundary characterisation and preferred orientation,or texture.
