Effect of the Addition of Steel Slag on the Properties of Coke: Preparation of High Strength and Highly Reactive Coke
The steel slag(0.1~0.2mm and <0.1mm)was added to a coking coal(Liuling coal)with different blending ratios and cokes were then prepared from the blended coal samples. The CO2-gasification reactivity of the resulting cokes(PRI)increases with the increase of blending ratio of the steel slag. And the smaller the size of the steel slag, the higher the improvement of the reactivity of cokes. The specific surface area of the cokes after reaction first increases then decreases at PRI > 25%,which shows that the much more carbon loss ratio enhanced the degradation trend(ΔPSR/ΔPRI)of coke.In addition, the highly reactive cokes were prepared from coal blends by addition of a steel slag with 0.5 wt.%and 1 wt.%blending ratios. The mechanical strength of these highly reactive cokes is a little different from the one of the base coke(BC).The addition of steel slag increases the CO2-gasification reactivity of these cokes, and lowers the reaction starting temperature of the cokes. However, the difference of the reaction rate(CRR25)and strength after reaction(CSR25)between these cokes is small. The average pore diameter of these cokes after reaction is similar to the one of BC.In conclusion, the steel slag is a suitable additive for preparation of the highly reactive cokes.
