Properties of Ferro-coke and Its Effect on Blast Furnace Reactions
The reactivity of ferro-coke is much higher than the conventional coke and its application to the blast furnace is expected to improve the blast furnace reactions efficiency and to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emission.Ferro-coke could thus be a new kind of BF burden materials with broad development prospects. In order to under the effect of using ferro-coke on BF reactions,a series of laboratory tests has been conducted in this paper.Firstly,ferro-cokes were made in a laboratory cokemaking oven of chamber type by adding three kinds of iron ores into the cokemaking coal blend and the ferro-cokes with higher reactivity as well as comparatively high strength after reaction were chosen as experimental samples for the further study.Secondly, the carbon solution loss reaction tests, the coupled reactions tests between iron ore reduction and ferro-coke gasification, and the primary slag formation tests under the condition of ferro-coke and iron ores mixed charging and simulating blast furnace conditions were carried out.The experimental results showed the gasification reaction beginning temperature of ferro-coke is obviously lower than that of the conventional coke, that ferro-coke mixed charging is more effective than nut coke mixed charging in terms of accelerating iron ore reduction, and that ferro-coke mixed charging can decrease the melt-down temperature as well as the pressure drop of stock column and narrow down the softening-melting range, which are beneficial to the improvement of blast furnace performance.
