Study on W-alloyed Type-429 Ferritic Stainless Steel for Exhaust System
Type-429 Ferritic stainless steel is an low cost material to be used in hot end of automotive exhaust system,this grade was widely used for the fabrication of manifold,which usually work at 800℃-900℃.For developing a new kind of steel which is available at 1000℃,effect of W addition on room-temperature mechanical properties,high temperature strength and oxidation resistance of type-429 ferritic stainless steel were discussed in present study.The test result shows that W can enhance the strength in both room-temperature and 1000℃,oxidation resistance is also improved significantly with the increase of W content.However,W addition tend to degrade the adhesion of oxide layer,cause a spallation of oxide layer during a cold and hot alternate condition.
