Investigation on Interface Inclusion and the Bond Behaviour of Hot-Rolled Stainless Steel Clad Plates

The impurities on the bonded interface were analyzed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and the formation mechanism of oxides were investigated and discussed. The results show that the impurities are mainly made of oxides. The chemical composition of oxides can also be related to vacuum inside the clad metal slab, and the oxide of silicon dominates at the vacuum degree of 100Pa or more and the oxide of aluminum at the vacuum degree of 0.01Pa.The experimental results also indicated that oxidation also become more evident with the vacuum degree reduction, and the proportion of inclusion increase to 50%from 10%with increase in vacuum degree from 0.1Pa to near 20Pa,which lead to the decrease of bonding strength from 440MPa to 350MPa.Interface bond behavior between stainless steel and carbon steel was suggested based on element distribution and microstructure evolution.
