Effect of MgO on Melting and Crystallization of CaO-Fe2O3 System

To solve some problems of sinter properties and slag performance existed on use of iron ores with high-Al2O3 content in blast furnace,a favour method is to add amount of MgO into sinter. In this work, effect of MgO on melting and crystalization of binding phase in high-basicity siner has been investigated by using TG-DSC and crystalizing test of CaO-Fe2O3 system(molar ratio=1:1)combining X-ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscopy. The result showed that MgO added into CaO-Fe2O3 system increases the initial melting temperature from the eutectic temperature of CaO?Fe2O3 and CaO?2Fe2O3 to the peritectic temperature of CaO?Fe2O3 and 2CaO?Fe2O3 in the heating process, simultaneously the beginning temperature of crystallization of calcium ferrite increases with increase of MgO content in the cooling process. It was found that magnetite formed in CaO-Fe2O3 system was mainly in the heating process, especially over 1338℃,and the amount of magnetite formed increased with increase of MgO added. It was also observed in the experiments that MgO can get into magnetite, and exist in(Ca,Mg,Fe)O·Fe2O3 phase, while the MgO could not be in phases of CaO?Fe2O3 and 2CaO?Fe2O3.
