Enhancing the Sintering Performance of Blends Comprising High Ratio of Brazilian Hematite Concentrate by SMBGS Process

Considering that only about 10%Brazilian hematite concentrate could be proportioned in the sinter blends because of its fine size in granulation, enhancing its sintering performance was studied by separated microballing granulating sintering(SMBGS)processes to further elevate its ratio up to 30%in the sinter blends.Compared with traditional granulation-sintering process, much better results were achieved by the SMSP as follows: elevating the unit productivity from 1.44 t·m-2·h-1 to 1.71 t·m-2·h-1,augmenting the tumble index from 57.60%to 63.80%,decreasing the solid fuel rate from 76.46 kg·t-1 to 65.24kg·t-1.Therefore,the SMBS process can significantly enhance the sintering performance of blends comprising high ratio of Brazilian hematite concentrate. The mechanism of the SMBS processes is demonstrated that the permeability of sinter mixture is increased markedly by separately microballing the fine hematite concentrate, and the coke level is cut appropriately, leading to a higher oxidation potential in sintering bed and more calcium ferrite bonding phase being formed finally. In the meantime, minerals in the product sinter crystalyse fully and compactly, and more middle or small sized round pores form compared to loose microstructure and irregular big pores in the traditional sinter.Good quality sinter with higher strength and better reducibility can be manufactured by the SMBS process.
