Induction and Steel Finishing Lines: Major Trends End of 2015
Cold steel strip processing lines are increasingly becoming more and more sophisticated. They include critical heat treatment sections to produce high-strength grade steel strips particularly for automotive applications(Multi-Phase & Trip). After fast cooling, annealed materials are rapidly and efficiently reheated under protective atmosphere(some of which containing a high H2 concentration)in overaging or tempering zones to control precisely the steel microstructure through an improved temperature control.Very often, new steel strip production lines include also in line sophisticated post treatments sections to improve further more strip surface quality.Inductive solutions also open new ways to improve the furnace transition behavior which increases indirectly the capacity of the processing line and results in savings in the production costs.Inductotherm Coating Equipment,a major partner of the steel industry, developed various inductive technologies answering the needs of the metallurgy to continuously improve the performance of existing or new production lines in the interests of their customers(high quality, high yield, high economical efficiency, high flexibility …).From the induction heating point of view, the first concern is the required high power density level of these strip heaters. The second concern is the modification of the electromagnetic characteristics of these new high strength steels(martensic/austenitic content). This is not only a problem for the heaters under protective atmosphere but it is also a problem for the galvannealing furnaces. We adapted our standard designs to improve their load matching capability to be compatible with normal and high strength steels.
