Vertical Electromagnetic Brake Technique and Fluid Flow in Continuous Casting Mold
This paper proposed a new type electromagnetic brake technique that called vertical electromagnetic brake(V-EMBr),which applied to the slab continuous casting process.A three-dimensional mathematical model is developed to describe molten steel flow and the interfacial behavior of molten steel/liquid slag in the mold with vertical electromagnetic brake, considering the coupled effects of electromagnetic field and flow field. The effect of magnetic flux density, casting speed and the submergence depth of the SEN on flow field in mold with V-EMBr are investigated by numerical simulation method.Meanwhile, the effect of current density on the interfacial behavior of molten steel/liquid slag is also investigated with Volume of fluid(VOF)model. The results show that the application of V-EMBr can play an effect control to the molten steel in the mold, and significantly reduce the flow intensity in upper recirculation zone, decrease the impact strength of jet flow on the narrow face and the flow velocity of molten steel in the free surface of mold.At the same time, the height of molten steel/liquid slag interface can be obviously depressed by V-EMBr with increasing of current density, which is beneficial to reduce the possibility of mold flux entrapment.
