The petroleum geology in the western Nepal
Systematic identification of oil and gas in the Midland group of Nabisthan Formation (NF),mid-western Nepal was in the decade 1958-2008;consist of the metasedimentary rock of Midland Group of LesserHimalaya. While,Department of Mines and Geology (DMG) Nepal were given the high priority to explore andpromote petroleum exploration in Nepal since 1982,conducted airborne magnetometer survey in 1978-79 overthe Siwalik and Terai zone of Nepal, covering the whole country of an area 48,000 sq.km.DMG/ Petroleum Exploration Promotion Project (PEPP) identified 10 different Exploration blocks in Terai and Siwalik, southern parts of the country.According to DMG Nepal, the Texas Resources Company has discovered a hugeoil field in Wachita,Texas, which is also structurally very much similar to the subsurface structures of Western Nepal Terai Plain.Geological studies have been carried out by many researchers in the western Nepal andexamine the inflammable gas seepage at Siristhan,Nabhisthan and Padukasthan in Dailekh districts in variousways (Khadka,2014).
