分层变形的台湾造山运动

A key to mountain building at convergent continental margins is the interplay between crustal thickeningand plate subduction. This process is poorly investigated for the Taiwan orogen, one for the most activemountain belt.We report 3D seismic anisotropic tomography of Taiwan that shows nearly 90 degree rotationof anisotropic fabrics across 10-20 km depth, suggesting a transition from compression-induced deformation inthe upper crust to shear-induced deformation in the lower or the crust of the subducted Eurasian plate.Thelower crustal shearing may result from ductile flow driven by the continuous subduction of the Eurasianmantle lithosphere. The existence of the two independent deformation regimes reconciles the thin- andthick-skinned models long debated for the formation of Taiwan orogen.
