Effect of Alfven waves on the polarization of solar radio bursts
The polarization is one of the most important characteristics of solar radio bursts (SRBs),which carries a plenty of information on the physics of solar activities including emission mechanisms of the emitting sources as well as the ambient magnetic field, plasma, and propagation processes. In this talk we report that the presence of Alfven waves (AWs),which exist ubiquitously in various environments of solar activities, also can significantly influence the polarization senses of SRBs driven by electron-cyclotron maser (ECM) emissions. In particular, the polarization sense of ECM emissions sensitively depends on the relative intensity of the presented AW in the source region. We propose that the variation of AW intensity probably is one of important causes for SRBs to present complex polarization variations in observations.
