Organic geochemistry and hydrocarbon-generating contrast between lacustrine mudstone and dolomite of Xiagou Formation in Qingxi Sag, Jiuquan Basin
The Lower Cretaceous Xiagou Formation in Qingxi sag, located in the southwest of the basin,is a horizon making the development of large sets of argillaceous dolomite and dolomitic mudstone its main lithofacies characteristics.Although the lithofacies have been identified in previous studies and the given rock assemblages indicate the sedimentary product is hydrothermally deposited, little work has been performed on unconventional tight organic matter-rich carbonate source rock, especially the thermally-deposited argillaceous dolomite. The dolomite deposited in thermal environment shows distinct characteristics from that of normally deposited dolomite. The integration of field outcrop observation with laboratory analyses has been established for the better delineation of the geochemical characteristics and for the elaborate study of the hydrocarbon-generating potential of the Lower Cretaceous Xiagou Formation.
