Inhibitive effect of total alkaloids from Phyllodium pulchellum on collagen content and correlated cytokines expression in rat hepatic stellate cell
Phyllodium pulchellum has been used as a folk remedy for the treatment of chronic hepatitis in China, and its beneficial effect on liver fibrosis in rats had been reported by some researchers. This study examined the effect of total alkaloids isolated from Phyllodium pulchellum (PTA) on collagen content and correlated cytokines expression in HSC-T6 cells.Analysis at the end of 48h experiments showed that PTA could significantly reduce both the contents and the mRNA levels of COL Ⅰ, COL Ⅲ, COL Ⅳ,TGF-β1 and PDGF in HSC-T6 cells.Furthermore, PTA markedly decreased the protein expression levels of TGF-β1 and PDGF-BB.Our results indicate that the protective effect of PTA on hepatic fibrosis was at partly due to its ability to attenuate collagen content and correlated cytokines.
