Metaphor and Narrative: A Cognitive Poetics of Space in Absalom, Absalom!
Metaphor is one of the basic ways of human”s understanding the world.Narrative reflects man”s being in and thinking about the world.It is a complex cognitive process.This study rethinks cognitive metaphor theory from a discourse perspective and examines the functions of metaphor in narrative with particular reference to spatial representation in William Faulkner”s novel Absalom, Absalom!.This article argues that metaphor like metonymy is an important mode of narrative construction.
