A PM10 concentration level prediction model based on continuous HMM for Lanzhou city

  The air pollution in Lanzhou city has caused wide public concern over the recent years.Among the factors leading to air pollution in lanzhou city, high PM10 concentration is an important one.Thus, predicting the PM10 concentration plays a particularly important role in controlling air pollution and protecting the health of people.By analyzing the relationship between PM10 concentration and meteorological conditions in Lanzhou city, this paper proposes a hidden Markov model of continuous observation (CHMM), which takes continuous meteorological condition as observations, PM10 concentration-levels as hidden states.The model selects the summer data in 2007-2010 as the training set, the summer data in 2011 as the test set.The experimental result shows that the model can precisely predict PM10 concentration-levels in most days, compared to the other two well-known prediction models.Hence, this model can be used to predict PM10 concentration-levels in Lanzhou city in summer in advance of 24 hours.
