Best Practice of Book Sharing at National Library of Korea:Book Donation Program Book the More as Means to Accumulate and Share Knowledge and Information
From 2004, the National Library of Korea (NLK) has hosted the annual book donation program called ” Book the More”, in an attempt to enrich the national collections with books which are not included in the legal deposit.Through Book the More, about 110, 000 books and materials are collected every year: About 13, 000 of them are registered as the national collections, and the others which the library already possesses are re-donated to underprivileged libraries such as small-sized libraries, military libraries, and libraries at community child centers. This program greatly contributes to sharing knowledge resources and promoting reading throughout the country. This paper aims at introducing NLK” s successful donation program which not only enriches the national collections but also spreads the culture of recycling and sharing books by providing the extra books to idle facilities.
