Developments in the National Library Board of Singapore
The National Library was a government department until 1995, when a major review of publicly-funded libraries resulted in the National Library being converted to a statutory board to develop better library services.Since becoming a statutory board, the National Library Board (NLB) implemented two master plans to revamp all its libraries and services, to improve service levels. It is in the process of submitting a proposal for the third master plan. This paper shares the background on this, and describes the key programmes currently being undertaken by the board to promote reading and learning.
