Human heart function and aging: what can we learn from Drosophila?
Nowadays, mortality associated with heart disease in aging is dramatically increasing. However, the molecular mechanism underlying age-dependent maintenance of heart functions remains far from clear.Studies on fundamental mechanisms of cardiac aging in mammals are complicated by two main issues:heart function is exquisitely critical for mammalian viability and the long life span of mammals makes them somewhat impractical for studying the genetics of aging.
