Role of steroid receptor coactivator 3 in bacterial colitis
Steroid receptor coactivator 3 (SRC-3) is a transcriptional coactivator which interacts with nuclear receptors and other transcription factors to enhance their effects on target gene transcription. We recently reported that SRC-3-deficient (SRC-3-/-) mice are markedly more susceptible to Ecoil-induced septic peritonitis due to an uncontrolled overwhelming inflammation and a defect in bacterial clearance, which highlights a pivotal role of SRC-3 in the host defense system against bacterial infection.
