Professional Legal Education in Japan:Achievements and Obstacles

IntroductionI expect that Professor Shigeo Miyagawa will discuss the development and current issues of clinical legal education in Japan,with a description of the largest clinical program in Japan at Waseda University Law School.Clinical legal education was introduced in Japan as part of the introduction of post-graduate professional legal education (law schools) in 2004 based on the final recommendations of the Justice System Reform Council in 2001.Therefore,I will discuss the background,development,and current issues of law schools in Japan,with an emphasis on clinical legal education.
