The Externality Analysis of the Traffic Congestion in Beijing
As the increasing maladjustment problems between traffic demand and supply in cities, the traffic congestion is becoming more and more serious.Severe road congestion not only brings much inconvenience to people”s daily lives, but also brings some negative effects.The purpose of this research is to calculate the external cost and analyze the externalities of the traffic congestion in Beijing.The method used in this study is a newly-developed model of Texas Transportation Institute.In the new model, time consuming, extra fuel cost, discharge of harmful gas, noise pollution and traffic accidents are contents of externalities.The research I have done suggests that the external cost of the traffic congestion in Beijing is very large.And as suggestions, I think Beijing can increase the cost of purchasing personal vehicles, increase the cost of owning vehicles and develop the public transportation to reduce the externalities of the traffic congestion to internalize externalities.
