Ecological Engineering and Global Food Security
Ecological engineering can be considered the design of human systems in a manner consistent with ecological principles so that the role of natural processes is maximized and the need for human inputs is reduced (Mitsch & J? rgensen, 1989).One application for ecological engineering is to provide pest suppression, chiefly by enhancement of biological control from providing appropriate forms of vegetation that provide shelter and foods for natural enemies (Gurr et al., 2004).
