IV&V Conception and Implementation for Multi-Lane Free-Folw Etc System

  This paper describes the Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) technique for a multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) electronic toll collection (ETC) system implemented by TUV Rheinland in 2010.The IV&V technique here was adopted to ensure the ETC System can well-operate under the MLFF traffic condition and the system can satisfy the functional requirements in Taiwan.In 2006,a single-lane restricted-flow (SLRF) toll booth-based ETC System was implemented and operated on all the freeways in Taiwan.Taiwanese management unit plans to migrate from the manual toll to full distance-based MLFF ETC System in year 2013.However,the behavior of drivers and equipment setting are quite different between SLRF and MLFF.Therefore,the operator -Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co.(FETC) built a MLFF testing system in 2010 and invited TUV Rheinland to design the suitable methodologies for this IV&V work based on the characteristics of MLFF traffic condition.The findings from this IV&V trial are the major objectives of this paper.
