The Cause of Interlanguage Production of ”Wo Xuexi Hanyu Zai Daxue”
The great majority of scholarshave concluded that the production of interlanguageas exemplified by ”* Wo xuexi Hanyu zai daxue” is caused by the language transfer from learners”s previous study of English word order.However, the reason why L2 Chinese learners incorrectly producethe interrogative sentence, for example ”* Ni xuexi Hanyu zai nar?”, remains to be explained.To better understand the cause of both declarative and interrogative sentences in which the locative phrase is placed in a postverbal position, this study investigates the property of the L2 formsby monitoring the changes in the interlanguagethat are produced by Japanese-speaking L2 Chinese learners.Ⅰ found that there are recognizable patterns in developmental process that are summarized in the following sequence: ”* Wo daxue zai Hanyu xuexi”(FormⅠ), which is produced by slower learners from a Japanese-speaking background.Learners who produced FormIgo on to produce ”* Wo xuexi Hanyu zai daxue”(FormⅡ) and then ”Wo zai daxue xuexi Hanyu” (FormⅢ).The same goes for the developmental process of the interrogative sentence.These observations indicate that Form Ⅱ is an inevitable progression in the grammar reconstructions of learners” interlanguage, rather than transference from English word order.
