Link Evidence from CSL Empirical Study to the Grammar Teaching Implication to the Textbook Compiling

  There has been an effort to design grammar syllabus in language teaching.A learnable sequence of items array is very important to the success of language learning.This paper/presentation contains results and analyses from a quasi-survey of elicitation tasks designed for 70 college level Chinese secondlanguage learners from three language backgrounds (English 19,Japanese 25 and Korean 26),all are at different Chinese language proficiency levels, on their use and understanding of Chinese modal auxiliary verbs.This paper will present an analysis of how the Chinese modal auxiliaries are acquired by the learners from different L1 background and what are the problems in current textbook designs and teaching.More important,what teachers and CSL educators can do in preparing the syllabus and teaching materials.
