Simulation of a multiple-scales groundwater flow system using a hierarchical method

  A hierarchical method was applied to simulate steady groundwater flow in a complex groundwater flow system.This method enables converting a large and complex groundwater problem into a network of hierarchically nested and dynamically coupled models that can be easily solved.It uses a coarse grid system in a large-scale region and a fine one in a small local region, and can present respectively all the groundwater flow features in multiple-scale regions.Also, this method presents a invaluable tool for understanding scale-dependent processes and for practical groundwater investigations.And an example demonstrates the effectiveness of the hierarchical method and its potential for multi-scale groundwater modeling.
