Development of observation technique for the amount of evaporation at water surface using water temperature data
The automatic observation system used to observe the amount of evaporation at the water”s surface in Yongdam Dam has become a Korean-style item of equipment that is able to reflect the local weather conditions through steady improvements and compensations.One of the major characteristics of large dam reservoirs is the great fluctuation of the water level.In the case of Yongdam Dam, the upper limit of the water level is EL.261.5 m and the lower limit is EL.228.5 m during the flood season.Hence the range of fluctuation can be as much as 33 m.Thus, observation of the amount of evaporation at the same point is needed even when the water level changes.For this purpose, we have developed a monitoring system that is inter-locked with the water level.In this article, we report the result of the water surface temperature and the corresponding evaporation.The result indicates that the evaporation at water surface differs significantly from the ground pan evaporation.
