The Bauhaus as a Historic Mediator Between Craft and Design

Mass production, based on the development of industries and markets, has always required-and will continue to do so-a permanent reconsideration of the critical reflection and of the concepts of design. An awareness of this emerged during the last quarter of the 19th century in England and, even more so, during the 1920s in Germany. At the centre of this development was the Bauhaus, alongside some other important personalities and groups.
