災害から文化財を守る
March 11, 2011 has definitely become an unforgettable day for Japan, when the Great East Japan Earthquake severely hit the Tohoku region.The total number of the dead and missing amounts to 23176.And monstrous tsunami caused by the earthquake has left devastating damage to the coastal area.We ought to pay active attention to the context of the damage caused by the earthquake to all sorts of cultural properties.Because the very identity of a region is clearly reflected in local cultural properties, these cultural properties are the true source and supportive elements for the recovery of the inhabitants and the region from the aftermath.By inheriting and passing down a variety of cultures perpetuated by the predecessors those who are suffering are expectedly encouraged and given hopes for a better recovery.It is high time we reflected on how to protect these indispensable cultural properties and plan their risk management through a through listing and rescue work.
