元代鐵製梵鐘(爿)材料(咖世电)金屬學的特性研究

This study analyzed the materials used for casting a steel temple bell in the third year of Sungjong(1298) of Yuan dynasty in China through the radiographic testing and the metallographic analysis sample of temple bell. From the result of non-destructive analysis using γ-ray, numbers of innercracks of top board and casting foams (blacking scaps) were observed and the surrounding of casting foams were corroded. The result of analysis on sample A and B collected from trigram 1 and 6 of steel temple bell shows that the sample A consists of bronze and white cast iron while the sample B consists of only white cast iron.In the sample A, large and small pieces of Pb were segregated in Cu-Sn base, and hypo-eutectic white cast iron were observed in the sides of Cu-Sn base. Also the cross-stripes in base of CuSn are the slip line inside of bronze structure caused by residual stress when striking the bell, and were found in all Cu-Sn bases.Unlikely the sample B in which only hypo-eutectic white cast iron were observed, the Cu, Pb and Sn ingredients in sample A were due to the addition of iron ore, chalcopyrite, galena and cassiterite when casting the temple bell to improve liquidity and castability of fritted iron. From the observation that various ingredients were detected in the bottom part of some trigrams, it can be inferred that Cu and Pb that are higher than Fe were segregated in the bottom of temple bell because of specific gravity.
