Conservation of Jade Investiture Books in National Palace Museum of Korea
Royal Investiture Books are representative royal artifacts that symbolize the dignity of the royal family during the Joseon Dynasty and the Korean Empire.When conferring posthumous titles or epithets upon kings and queens, Royal Investiture Books exalting the virtue of the royal family were produced.Especially, Royal Investiture Books carved on the surface ofjadestone are referred to ”Ok-chaek (玉冊, Jade Investiture Book)”.Jade Investiture Books consist of complex materials such as jadestone, metal and silk those materials are damaged by various factors.Thus conservation process of Ok-chaeks depends on characteristics of each material, and can be conducted to cleaning, consolidation, adhesion, restoration and finishing treatment.This presentation shows the investigation result and conservation treatment performed according to the guidelines on conservation as well as the display plan of National Palace Museum of Korea.
