Soil Reinforcment Experiments inside the Large-Scaled Bucket Foundation in Muddy Soil

Large-scale bucket foundation with 30 m diameter and 6 m height was used as the foundation of wind turbine. The wide-shallow foundation is different from the traditional bucket foundations with high ration of height to diameter. The cover-load-bearing capacity of the new type foundation can resist much more loading conditions. To achieve the bearing mode, the muddy soil inside the bucket should be reforced, which will improve the soil strength and make the soil and foundation into whole part to bearing the external loadings. The vacuum and electro-osmotic soil reinforcing method were used in the experiments. The results show that the bearing behavior of muddy soil can be effectively improved by the negative pressure and electro-osmotic effect, and the improved muddy soil with better strength will work together with the bucket foundations, which means the top-cover bearing mode of new bucket foundations would be achieved.During the soil reinforcing processing, the foundation would move downward,i.e.the settlement of foundations would almost finish during the pre-loading processing caused by the vacuum and electro-osmotic method.
