An event-driven based vehicle-to-roadside data interaction scheme for traffic control purpose
Frequent exchanging messages between vehicles and the roadside unit (RSU) will cause large data redundancy and a waste of communication resources in the traffic information system based on vehicle-to-roadside communication network. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes an event-driven based vehicle-to-roadside data interaction scheme for traffic control purpose. The road traffic congestion index is calculated based on the vehicle driving status collected by vehicle-to-roadside communication.Further, according to different traffic application requirements of signal control and the variation of the congestion index, four different congestion events and the associated data interaction models are presented. When certain congestion event happens, vehicles dynamically adjust the data transmitting frequency to the RSU based on the interaction model.Simulation results show that, vehicles generate less data packets compared with the time-driven scheme under certain conditions.
