From Patrimony to Heritage:Representations and Constructions of Round-dragon Houses
Through a field study in a Hakka village, this paper explores local residents” representations and constructions towards Round-dragon houses from the perspective of locality.Local representations demonstrate pluralism in the sense of space, which is specifically embodied on space of physical attribute, social relation, symbolic meaning and cultural habitus; local constructionsare making Round-dragon house transformed from patrimony to heritage.Pluralismposes challenges to the ”nomination for inscription on the World Heritage List” (Shenyi),and also to the development of this potential tourist attraction.
