Left-handed Product Design Based on the Theory of Universal Design
With the development of human society, the appellation of ”left handedness” has gradually evolved to ”sanitation”, which implies much more equality. However, in the process of product design, needs of the sinistromanual are neglected by most product designers. Simultaneously, the lack of left-handed product makes the sinistromanual disabled and discriminatory. The paper presents the philosophy of product design for both hands based on the theory of universal design, which means achieving universality for both hands of products and creating accessible environmental conditions by the methods of symmetrizing, mirroring, interchanging left and right and so on.
