ndividualized perioperative nutrition support for upper gastrointestinal cancer patients in the ERAS era
Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol is first introduced in Northern Europe for colorectal surgery. This program combines several evidence-based interventions aimed at reducing perioperative stress and organ dysfunction by targeting factors that delay postoperative recovery such as gut function, immobility, and pain.Thisinnovative strategy is now clinically in practice in hospitals worldwide and promising results of faster functional recovery, shorter length of stay after surgery, and reduction in complications have been reported. It is now being implemented in abdominal procedures other than colorectal surgery.
