Effects of K2Ti6O13 Whiskers on Structure and Properties of PBZT Ferroelectric Ceramics
K2Ti6O13 whiskers (KTOw,0~1.5 wt%) toughened (Pb0.70Ba0.26Sr0.04)(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 (PBZT) ceramic composites were prepared by the solid state reaction method.Their structure, mechanical, piezoelectric properties were investigated. With incorporation of KTO whiskers,PBZT ceramic density decreases, with the rhombohedral phase transformed into the tetragonal phase. The fracture-deformation of PBZT/KTOw composites is related to KTOw content, reaching a maximum value 2.42 mm at KTOw content of 1.0 wt%,which is higher about 30 % than that for PBZT ceramic matrix.Meanwhile,at KTOw content range of 0-1.5 wt% in PBZT/KTOw composites, the piezoelectric constant (d33) and electromechanical coupling coefficient (K31) show an initial increase and then decrease, reaching maximum values at about 0.5 wt%.It finds that with optimized contents of KTOw (0.4-0.8 wt%) the fracture-deformation,piezoelectric constant (d33),electromechanical coupling coefficient (K31) of PBZT/KTOw composites can be simultaneously improved, which is significant for their applications in actuators.
