The Role of Class Actions for Monetary Damages in the United States
Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the economic activity of Chinese companies within the United States.More Chinese companies are doing business with American companies, exporting products to the U.S.consumer market, and raising capital on the U.S.securities markets. With this increase in economic activity has come an increase in litigation in U.S.courts against Chinese companies. In the first half of 2011 alone, for instance, nearly 30 securities class actions were filed in U.S.courts against Chinese issuers.Litigation involving Chinese companies is also on the rise in areas including products liability and intellectual property.
