Perspectives of effectiveness increase of longwall methane drainage in Polish hard coal mines

The introduction of market economy in the Polish hard coal mining has forced the necessity of changes in the output technology, conditioning the assurance of high output concentration, productivity increase and decrease of the unit cost of production.High output concentration in conditions of gassy seams exploitation has contributed to the increase of methane emissions into the environment of extracted longwalls, causing problems connected with worsening of safe exploitation conditions. The problems of safety of extracted longwalls should be the subject of analyses at the stage of exploitation planning.Exploitation planning in strongly gassy seams is especially important in respect of ventilation conditions and longwall methane drainage possibilities. The increase of output concentration within the period of the last 12 years has caused significant methane emissions into longwalls,by about 68%,with inconsiderable increase of methane drainage effectiveness by 4.5%.In such a situation the improvement of methane drainage effectiveness of exploitation areas constitutes a very important link in the production process of a hard coal mine.In the article problems connected with the possible in the future improvement of methane drainage effectiveness in hard coal mines in Poland were touched.
