Sports arbitration started in Japan when the Japan Sports Arbitration Agency (”JSAA”) was established on April 7,2003.Its operating funds are provided by the Japan Olympic Committee (”JOC”), the Japan Amateur Sports Association (”JASA”) and the Japan Sports Association for the Disabled (”JSAD”).The Sports Arbitration Rule is applied to a dispute between an athlete and an athletic organization inwhich the athlete contests a disadvantageous decision made by said organization against the athlete regardinga specific game or operation of the organization. Such decision includes disciplinary measures against theathlete or selection of a player representing the country excluding the athlete. So far, eighte(18)arbitrationawards have been rendered.
