University as Learning Place:Understanding the Many Meanings of Quality
Introduction From the earliest times,universities have been seen as places for advanced learning and in earlier times were treated with a distant if unfamiliar respect by the population at large.Their quality was never questioned.But in recent times,the work of the university is less likely to be seen as something to be held in awe,than as an activity that has dubious connections to the challenges of the real world.
