Transglutaminase Mediated Polymerization Used in the Conservation of Historic Silk Ⅰ:Determination of Technological Conditions

  Instead of the traditional method of silk restoration based on the application of synthetic polymers,transglutaminase mediated polymerization was used as a compatible and moderate method to reinforce the vulnerable historic silk fabrics for the purpose of storage and display.Artificially aged(dry thermal ageing)silk samples were restored within this method.The best technological conditions of the treatment were determined by orthogonal experiment and confirmed by verification experiment.The results showed that tensile strength(increased by nearly six times)and thermal stability of the silk samples were improved by this method.This work suggests that transglutaminase mediated polymerization is a promising method for restoration of vulnerable historic silk fabrics.
