Sequence of a shrub willow facilltate the domestication of woody plants
The large size and long-generation intervals associated with forest tree species present challenges to molecular studies of perennial woody plant biology.Extrapolation of findings from annual, herbaceous plants to these archetypal systems would be facilitated through comparative genomics. In this study, we report the genome sequence of Salix suchowensis, a small shrub closely related to Populus, which provide a desirable system for functional comparative genomic studies of woody plants.
