The lysis of bacterial cell in oscillating electric field
A new disruption method using oscillating electric field has been developed in this study. In a low voltage oscillating electric field,Eschericia coli cells were effectively disrupted and recombinant proteins were released showing enzymatic activity.Different oscillating frequencies were tested to optimize the disruption of cells but no significant influence of frequency on cell lysis was observed. This method can be further developed for sterilization of beverages and diary products and used by microfluidic or high throughput screening devices to detect bio-molecules.
