The effect of whole lung lavage with Polyethylene glycol compound MDO after inhalation of depleted uranium dust in canines
”Background”Depleted uranium (DU),waste product of uranium enrichment,has several civilian and military applications.It was used as armor-piercing ammunition in international military conflicts due to its availability,price and pyrophoricity,and was claimed to contribute to health problems,known as the Gulf War Syndrome and recently as the Balkan Syndrome.Inhaled depleted uranium (DU) aerosols are recognised as a major human health hazard.Depending on aerosol characteristic,inhalation may lead to a protracted exposure of the lung and other organs.However,a desirable agent to clear DU has not been discovered until now.
